Dublin Dining A to Z

* * *

★★ 101 Talbot O’CONNELL STREET INTERNATIONAL This cheery and informal spot, a 3-minute walk from the General Post Office on O’Connell Street, is strong on delicious Irish cuisine with global influences and a healthy twist. The bright, airy dining room is lined with modern art. Specials may include seasonal vegetables with Taleggio cheese gratin, or roast Lough Erne lamb with herb-encrusted potato rosti. The early bird menu (two courses for €20, 5–7:15pm) is a particularly good deal and popular with pre-theater diners attending the Abbey Theatre just around the corner. 101 Talbot St. www.101talbot.ie. ☎ 01/874-5011. Entrees €16–€24. Lunch & dinner Tues–Sat. Map p 100.

★★★ Aqua HOWTH SEAFOODWith a jaw-dropping view over Dublin Bay, this has to be one of the most romantic dining spots in the region. You can start with a half dozen oysters from Carlingford Lough before moving on to roast cod with a tomato and chorizo sauce, or some roast monkfish with a curry infusion. There’s also a small range of tasty meat options for those who aren’t wowed by the bounty of the sea. Howth is a small commuter suburb of Dublin, about 16km (10 miles) northeast of the city center. The restaurant is about a 10-minute walk from the Howth DART station. A cab out here from the city should run you about €30. Definitely worth the splurge. 1 West Pier, Howth. ☎ 01-832 069. www.aqua.ie. Entrees €17–€42. Lunch & dinner Tues–Sun. DART: Howth. Map p 100.
